Winning Bid: £1,660.00

Estimate: £500 - £700
Very good condition. Some cigars with minor wrapper damage. Chirona was a brand of cigars, notably advertised as being supplied to the House of Lords. These vintage items are associated with the tobacco trade from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chirona through a slow transition during rebrand in the late 19th Century to the early 20th century from Chirona to La Ranessa by incorporating and introducing the name La Ranessa to their Chirona boxes. It was not until the early 20th century was Chirona dropped entirely to the new rebrand as La Ranessa. "La Ranessa" cigars (correctly spelled La Ranesa) seems to be closely linked to the historic Por Larranaga, Cuban brand, established in 1834 once hailed the most respected brand in Cuba. We believe this box is from the late 19th century during the transition of Chirona to La Renessa, and most probably using Por Larranaga tobacco, due to their historic link.
