In the early 1900s, following the death of Jose Gener, his family sold the Hoyo de Monterrey brand to F. Palacio y Cia., one of the most prestigious cigar houses in Havana at the time. The company went on to manage Hoyo de Monterrey alongside other renowned brands such as Belinda and Punch.
